Reached by a 90 minute domestic flight featuring amazing views of the atolls and an equator crossing, the island was a former British air base and evidence of this remains both around the islands and in the hotel itself. One of the highlights of this island is the diving - one of the best areas in the Maldives, featuring impressive coral formations and an amazing wreck dive. If diving is not for you, the complimentary snorkelling excursions offer an outstanding underwater experience. The hotel is set amongst tranquil gardens and has a relaxed, laid back atmosphere. The ideal choice for independent travellers and keen divers wishing to experience authentic Maldivian culture and incredible diving. NB. Guests may need to wait in Malé to await their transfer to the island.

It is a totally different experience to the other more idyllic and tranquil islands that everyone thinks of when they think of the Maldives. This Island is not about being pampered and lazing around on the beach, it is about experiencing the real Maldives, meeting real locals, eating local food, hopping onto different untouched islands, fishing and trying out some world-class diving and snorkelling. The hotel's own reef is only 25 metres from the beach. Equator Village is on the island of Gan which is quite unlike any of the other Maldivian islands, there are no infinity pools, personal butlers or water villas. It is connected to some of the atoll's other local islands by causeways - it is the only place where you can come into contact with real locals and see behind the scenes in the Maldives!
